Iceland’s position in the North Atlantic means it intercepts weather systems from multiple directions. Wind speeds above 15 m/s (storm force) are common in winter and can make driving a campervan on the Ring Road genuinely dangerous. Exposed areas — the Reykjanes Peninsula, Snæfellsnes, and the Highlands — are particularly affected.
